ENGINE GROUP TO ACQUIRE FLIPSCRIPT
Deepening of Engine's global presence gathers pace in Asia

Fast growing Shanghai based digital agency FlipScript enables creation of digital / social micro-network with Deep Focus and Jam

(London UK) Engine (www.theenginegroup.com) (@EngineLondon), the UK's largest privately-owned communications group, today announces that it is acquiring FlipScript China, a young and fast growing Shanghai based digital and social agency (www.flipscript.com.cn).

FlipScript provides world class digital and social media solutions for many global brands operating in China. Its services are focused on digital strategy and creative development, social marketing and mobile solutions. Current clients include Tourism Australia, Crocs, Starbucks, Moncler, New Balance, Bally and Kate Spade New York. It was founded in 2008 in Shanghai, China, and employs 52 staff, mostly Chinese nationals and has won many awards for its client campaigns. Alpha Xu and Wong Kian Fong, co-founders of FlipScript, will continue to lead the business.

The acquisition will enhance Engine's offering in China and allow Engine to create a social/digital micro-network with FlipScript, Deep Focus (Engine's New York based digital and social media agency) and Jam (Engine's London based digital and social media agency) working closely together. FlipScript will initially be renamed Deep Focus / FlipScript to reflect this.

The acquisition creates a combined 270 people strong operation with offices in London, New York, St. Louis and Shanghai, enabling Engine to develop a new digital and social offering to its existing and new international clients. Engine derives over 60% of global revenue for digital and is ranked 4th largest digital agency in the UK, having recently appointed Alex Balfour, the former head of New Media for London 2012 Olympic Games, in the new role of Chief Digital Officer.

Alpha Xu and Wong Kian Fong, co-founders of
FlipScript said:

"Having successfully grown our business and developed our client list in China now was the logical time to partner with a like-minded digital company, to spearhead the next phase of our growth. Our team is really looking forward to being part of a larger global force and the potential that brings."

David Liu, Chief Executive of
Engine Asia said:

“Following the acquisition of FlipScript, Engine will have further strengthened its platform in China and will now have four businesses; FlipScript, Calling Brands, DNA (a video/film production house) and the recently acquired MHP Hong Kong (formerly The Consultancy).

“FlipScript will share our new Shanghai offices with Calling Brands and DNA, making a total of over 100 Engine staff in China (including MHP Hong Kong).”

Peter Scott, Chief Executive of
Engine Group said:

“We are delighted that FlipScript’s highly regarded team is joining the Engine family and we are pleased that we are continuing to attract best in class agencies who buy into our business model. We are very excited at the potential that our newly created micro digital and social network represents – and we believe that the combination of FlipScript in China, Jam in London and Deep Focus in New York will provide world class creative digital and social media resource for global clients.

“Engine remains committed to expanding its business beyond its UK hub, and today’s announcement is consistent with our aim of deepening our burgeoning platforms in USA and Asia. We are looking to add additional international partners as we enter 2014 with the ongoing support of our shareholders and financial backers.”
